About Me

My name is Melanie McVay-Rutledge and I am a SAHM to Justin(3), Ryan(1), and wife to John. I learned how to sew from watching my mom sew dresses for my sisters and I, as well as tiny little outfits for all of my Barbie’s. I have been sewing for about 20 years now.

In 2005 I joined Live Journal and subsequently become part of a crafting group. We would make a chosen craft of the month for our secret recipient based on what they liked. One of the first swaps was a tote bag. I was hooked after making my first one!

I would make bags as gifts for family for birthdays or Christmas. Then my mom and sisters started getting asked if I made them to sell. At first I was nervous people wouldn’t like my work. I got past that and am now listing and selling my bags, as well embellished prefold cloth diapers on my Etsy site. I also have a MySpace page.
